In less than a month’s time, Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure – the epic new addition to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade – will open at Universal Orlando Resort. To get you excited for this “story coaster,” we’re sharing 7 details about the ground-breaking coaster technology and all-new environments you’ll be able to experience on June 13.

  1. Journey Beyond the Grounds of Hogwarts Castle

You’ll venture to the edge of the Forbidden Forest and enter ruins that have seemingly been abandoned for centuries behind Hagrid’s hut. The ruins were imagined and brought to life by Universal Creative in collaboration with the Harry Potter films’ Production Designer, Stuart Craig, and Art Director, Alan Gilmore. This is where your Care of Magical Creatures class with Hagrid will begin.

  1. All-New Environments and Sets

Inside the ruins, you will see materials from Hagrid’s Care of Magical Creatures class, including dragon eggs on the verge of hatching and a makeshift nursery where he kept his Blast-Ended Skrewts in a terrarium before they outgrew the chamber.

There will also be a pre-show featuring digital projection technology and special effects, where you’ll encounter Arthur Weasley, Hagrid, and his loyal dog, Fang.

But the experience doesn’t stop there! Once you board your motorbike, you’ll plunge deeper into the Forbidden Forest and closer to some of the wizarding world’s rarest magical creatures.

Here are some additional thrilling fun facts about the experience that will be brought to life with innovative coaster technology:

  1. The most launches of any roller coaster in the world – with 7 total launches

You’ll launch up to 50 miles per hour through the Forbidden Forest, past the ruins and more.

  1. The first coaster in the U.S. to feature a free-fall vertical drop – dropping you nearly 17 feet

Prepare yourself because you’ll be dropping quite a distance.

  1. The longest roller coaster in Florida, measuring nearly a mile in length (5,053 feet)

Your adventure into the Forbidden Forest is bound to be an exciting one – so keep your eyes peeled for creatures and mischief around every turn.

  1. Enchanted motorbikes will take you on an adventure through the Forbidden Forest – and you can ride the motorcycle like Hagrid or board the adjacent sidecar like Harry Potter

I think we should start a poll now – do you think you’ll be team motorcycle or team sidecar?

  1. The “story coaster” will catapult you 65 feet in the air at a more than 70-degree angle…then drop you backward in one movement

This will be the time to hold on tight and trust Hagrid to get you through your journey.

Before you know it, the opening of Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure will be here. Buckle up, it’s going to be a wild ride.

This ride looks phenomenal! One thing here that stands out to me is the statement saying that this ride will be the first in the US to use a free fall vertical drop track. That’s incorrect, as Verbolten at Busch Gardens Williamsburg opened in 2012 and contains a very similar drop track, falling 16 feet.

  2. Angie

We can’t wait! We have our hotel booked for June 13. Will express pass be available opening day? Also, if there is a pass holder special preview day, we’d love to be there!!!!!

  3. Elma Lear

Is it a true outdoor ride, or an indoor one that makes you think it’s outdoor?

  4. Leslie

How long will this ride be (time wise)? In other words, how many minutes does the ride last?

Any chance there will be a “soft opening” sometime prior? If so, how would we find out about this? We will be staying on property June 2, 3, 4. Hoping for a chance….

    • Hi Karen!

  8. Jenn

I have been super excited for this coaster as it was initially said to be a family coaster, but that doesn’t seem to be how it’s turned out. I love the theme and all the new elements built and incorporated, and I’m confident it will be technologically advanced. I love Escape from Gringott’s Bank and don’t mind that drop, but I’m very concerned about the backward segment and vertical free fall drop. How far is the backward portion of the ride? Any indication how many Gs for this ride?

    • Hi Jenn,

We appreciate your feedback regarding our upcoming attraction. Please continue to monitor our social media pages as well as our website for any updates.

  9. Michelle marie Liberty

Will it offer express pass and single-rider access?

    • Hi Michelle! I do not have any information just yet. Please continue to monitor our social media pages as well as our website for updates!

Looks absolutely incredible! Any idea if this coaster will accommodate plus-sized guests?

    • Hi Kellie! As with all attractions at Universal Orlando Resort, thsi ride will have certain height and other rider requirements to ensure guests have a safe and enjoyable experience on the attraction.

  12. Nick

Good to see it’s a proper coaster and not another screen based virtual ride!!!

  13. Shari

    • Hi Shari!

Oh we are so excited for this new ride! We came twice in 2018, so will have to wait a while before we can come back! But we are saving:)
It looks amazing!!! Everything is so well done there!!

    • Hi Shannon!

Thanks so much for the positive feedback regarding our upcoming attraction! We look forward to your visit!

  15. Miss Louise Francesca Kilkenny

This ride looks fantastic for me because I am a Number 1 fan of Harry Potter and I will be going on this ride when we next go to Orlando in the near future and we love nice and gentle roller coasters that do drops and turns and not by doing the horrible loop the loops at high speed and height I am looking forward to going on this ride

    • Hello!

Thanks so much for sharing your positive feedback. We look forward to your next visit with us and reading all about your experience!

  16. Jo

How in the world could you see anything going that fast and your a nervous wreck just twisting and turning? I’d probably throw up on everyone, but I know many will like this ride, but I’d like to see the forbidden forest in a slower way…like a bike.

  17. Big and Beautiful

Is this one going to have accommodations for people of size? Surely a motorcycle or two on the ride devoted to a giant could have more flexible sizing.

    • Hi! As with all attractions at Universal Orlando Resort, this ride will have certain height and other rider requirements to ensure guests have a safe and enjoyable experience on the attraction. Keep an eye out for more information in the future!

  18. Robin

I wish there was a similar ride that was not so scary. You need to make one with short drops and doesn’t go so fast.

  19. Lija

Is there any way for the handicapped to see Hagrid?

  20. Hello, at this time we do not have that information available. Please stay tuned to our website or social media channels for any additional information as it becomes available.

  21. Holly

Woohoo! I turn 30 on June 13th and decided to spend my birthday in Orlando because of this ride. We love Harry Potter World and can’t wait! Please let me know if it will be included in express pass.

  22. Alyssa Entenza

I am very excited to ride HAGRID’S MAGICAL CREATURES MOTORBIKE ADVENTURE. I’ve been waiting 2 years. Concerning seat belts, will this ride be safe with the free fall vertical drop? If it’s a complete 90 degree fall straight down, I fear that there might not be enough protection on this coaster adventure. How can you ensure the safety of your guests? This coaster does not seem family friendly as it was once said to be.

    • The safety of our Guests is our highest priority. We would never intentionally place our Guests in an unsafe situation, and at no time would we allow our Guests to experience an unsafe attraction. More information will be released as it gets closer about the attraction!

  23. Chris Sims

will go pro cameras be allowed

  24. sonya hall

which park is the ride located?

  25. Hi Nigel – Thank you so much for your feedback! I will be sure to document it and send it to the appropriate teams. Can’t wait to see you in the parks soon!
