Top 5 Ways to Stay Cool in the Parks
It’s no secret that it can get a little warm during summer days in Florida, so I have some tips for you on how to stay cool.
1) Water Rides
Hit those water rides first at Universal’s Islands of Adventure. Jump on Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls, Jurassic Park River Adventure, or my personal favorite, Popeye and Bluto’s Bilge-Rat Barges. You’ll stay cool while you continue on your adventures around the parks.
But if you’re not in the mood to get soaked, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.
2) Enjoy a Frozen Butterbeer
If you find yourself roaming the streets of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter on a hot summer day, grab a frozen Butterbeer to cool off. Not only will you feel refreshed, but it will also give you a fun Butterbeer mustache!
You can find frozen Butterbeer at the Three Broomsticks and Hog’s Head pub in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter- Hogsmeade or at the Leaky Cauldron and The Hopping Pot in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley.
3) Splash Zones and Water Play Areas
Some of our water rides have splash zones. So, if you’re passing by a water ride and looking for a quick way to cool-down, just wait for the next big splash. The Jurassic Park River Adventure splash zone is the perfect area to get drenched from head to toe. For a simple refreshing spray, the Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls splash zone is less intense for those of you who want to keep your make-up intact.
Walking through the splash pads can be a refreshing, easy way to chill out during the day. The whole family can cool down on the pop jets between Toon Lagoon and Jurassic Park in Islands of Adventure, or on their way out of the parks with the ones in CityWalk.
For the little ones in the family, check out If I Ran the Zoo in Islands of Adventure. The bigger kids (and adults) will enjoy running and splashing through the Curious George Goes to Town (shown at right) play area in Universal Studios. I recently stopped by there and had an adventure of my own.
4) Swim Suit
Wear your swim suit under your clothes. It’s a super easy way to stay cool and this way, it’s okay if you get soaked. Tank-tops and shorts are often the best ensemble to wear over your bathing suit. Light, flowy and quick-drying.
5) Ice Cream
At Universal Orlando, there are plenty of places where you can grab a sweet treat. My favorite is the Dippin’ Dots, but you can always grab an ice cream cone or frozen yogurt on the way to your next thrilling ride! If you’re in Universal Studios, grab a cone at Florean Fortescue’s Ice-Cream Parlour, Schwab’s Pharmacy or Ben & Jerry’s.
CityWalk also has some delicious frozen treats inside Cold Stone Creamery or Menchie’s. And you’re never that far away from a quick milkshake or a Starbucks treat no matter where you are at the resort.
6) Stay Hydrated
This is the easiest and most important thing to remember while keeping cool. Make sure the whole family is drinking water throughout the day.
Like my mom always said, “If you feel thirsty, you’re already dehydrated.”
And that’s how I stay cool in the parks. If you have any tips, share them in the comments below
