Interns Garrett and Rachel Take On Florida’s Biggest Party
Ahh, Mardi Gras—my favorite time of year. It really is a day that brings out the party in everyone (and who doesn’t love a great party, right?).
Now, I know Fat Tuesday just passed and y’all might be feeling those post-parade blues, so I am happy to say that Mardi Gras is still in full swing here at Universal Orlando Resort for the whole family to enjoy on select dates until April 18.
Being Florida’s biggest party, Universal’s Mardi Gras is something I have always wanted to experience, and this year I was finally able to go. My fellow intern, Rachel, came along with me so we could have a “N’awlins”-inspired adventure together.
As soon as we stepped foot in the French Quarter Courtyard, we knew we were in for a good time. Colorful jesters, riverboat dancers and live music from a New Orleans-style band made us feel like we were right on Bourbon Street having a “mardi pardi.”
After seeing all the mouth-watering food, we decided to treat our stomachs by ordering a few Cajun and Creole classics—gumbo, jambalaya and shrimp po boys. Beignets were also on our must-try menu, too. Were we stuffed? Yes. Was it worth it? Absolutely!
If that wasn’t enough, we were then given the opportunity to entertain the crowd by riding on the King and Queen float during the Mardi Gras Parade later that night (more on the beautiful floats here). With a little bit of royal swag, Rachel and I had a blast throwing handfuls of beads to the crowd and got to show off some of our regal dance moves.
Afterwards, we topped off the night by heading to the Music Plaza Stage to jam out to one of the awesome concerts that Universal is known for putting on throughout Mardi Gras.
The entire experience was a blast, and I can personally guarantee that Universal’s Mardi Gras does not disappoint. Y’all HAVE to come check it out!
We couldn’t resist documenting our incredible time, so make sure to check out our video below to see the fun for yourselves! Also, don’t forget to follow Universal Orlando Resort on Facebook for all of this year’s latest Mardi Gras moments!
As the French say, “laissez les bons temps rouler!”
