My dad and I live in separate countries so I was really excited when I had the chance to holiday with him and my older brother at Universal Orlando Resort last year. The last time we’d all been here together was back in 1992, when I was 8 years old.
We stayed at Universal’s Cabana Bay Beach Resort for three nights, and it was like a blast from the past for my dad since he was born in 1950. What we loved about Cabana Bay was how relaxed and friendly the hotel atmosphere was… what he and my brother didn’t love so much was when I beat them at bowling!
The next day, we got up early and enjoyed the Early Park Admission to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – a brilliant perk you get when staying on-site at Universal. I remember going to the cinema with my dad to see the first Harry Potter film when it came out. It’s so great to step into this world which reminds me so much of us growing up. We’re all big fans of the wizarding world. My dad particularly enjoyed Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts as it draws you right into the story.
We found a really happy balance between the three of us on what we did each day in the parks. My dad’s favourite show was the Horror Makeup Show, which we did after lunch when he started to feel a little tired after the busy and thrilling morning. When planning your day, it’s always good to keep these slightly more chilled options for the afternoon.
Another great thing about staying on-site is that when dad got a little tired, we could go back to the hotel in virtually no time and just relax by the pool or take a quick nap before going back to the parks or Universal CityWalk in the evening. We went to see the Blue Man Group show one night, which was right up my dad’s street. By the end of it he was on his feet dancing around to the beat of the music!
