4 Reasons Universal Orlando’s Mardi Gras is the Most Authentic Outside of New Orleans
Although the official Mardi Gras celebration in New Orleans has come and gone, there are still plenty of opportunities for you to experience the sounds, flavors and fun of Mardi Gras at Universal Studios Florida through April 7.
In fact, here are four reasons why our Mardi Gras is one of the most authentic celebrations you’ll find outside of New Orleans!
1. Parade Floats
As with most traditional Mardi Gras celebrations, ours is anchored by a dazzling parade featuring colorful floats. Universal Orlando Resort proudly partners with Kern Studios to bring intricately handcrafted floats to Florida. Kern Studios has famously designed and engineered New Orleans’ Mardi Gras floats since 1932.
This year, keep an eye out during the nightly constellation-themed parade for six brand-new celestial creations that include Taurus, Virgo, Andromeda, and Orion. Get ready to catch countless beads as they roll through the streets of Universal Studios, surrounded by festive krewes of colorful dancers and performers.
2. Big Easy Tunes
No party is complete without great music, and we can think of no better Mardi Gras soundtrack than traditional tunes from Bourbon Street bands. Widely considered the birthplace of jazz, funk and zydeco-style music, New Orleans is home to some of the best brass bands in the business – and they’re performing here with daily live performances in the French Quarter Courtyard.
Better dust off your dancing shoes, because we have some massive dance parties on our streets.
3. Cajun Cuisine
For hundreds of years, Mardi Gras has been traditionally observed as the last opportunity to indulge in richly flavorful foods before a season of fasting. Luckily for you, we have some seriously scrumptious dishes to offer.
Our chefs have pulled out all the stops to bring the flavors of New Orleans’ French Quarter to our very own French Quarter Courtyard. From mouthwatering jambalaya to fluffy beignets and more, you’ll be able to enjoy all the Cajun classics.
4. Live Concerts
OK, so maybe the first Mardi Gras celebrations didn’t feature live performances by nationally recognized acts, but I can’t talk about Universal’s Mardi Gras without talking about the concerts.
There are still several opportunities for you to enjoy live performances on select nights by some of the biggest names in music. Check out the full line-up.
If you couldn’t make it to New Orleans this year—or just want to know what “Fat Tuesday” is all about—mardi there’s still time to come celebrate with us at Universal Orlando Resort.
