What’s New In 2014 At Universal Orlando Resort

Fasten your seatbelts, pull down your restraints and keep your arms and legs inside the vehicle. This ride – and by ride, I mean the entire Universal Orlando Resort experience in 2014 – is getting more exhilarating by the day!
If you’ve been camped out in the wilderness or perhaps stranded on a deserted island in recent months, you might have missed the hoopla about just how much is happening at Universal Orlando this year. As a massive Harry Potter fan, naturally I’ve been eagerly awaiting every magical update on The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley expansion at Universal Studios Florida.
Did you catch the webcast in January with James Phelps, Evanna Lynch and Matthew Lewis? The actors who portrayed Fred Weasley, Luna Lovegood & Neville Longbottom popped over to Orlando to announce some of the wonders to come.
Details about the Hogwarts Express have also been revealed — can you believe you’ll be able to go between Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure while enjoying a real journey aboard the iconic locomotive? I don’t know if I’m more excited about Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts, the Hogwarts Express or the surprises inside King’s Cross Station. Oh, to be a fly on the wall with the Universal Creative team!
While the grand opening of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley will no doubt be the talk of the summer, there’s even more going on. Did you know CityWalk is getting a delicious makeover this year with a historic expansion? Antojitos Authentic Mexican Food is the second venue to open of eight scheduled for the rollout, following Red Oven Pizza Bakery’s debut last November. Coming soon: Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt, Breadbox Handcrafted Sandwiches, The CowFish, and more.
My mouth is watering already!
And with a full stomach comes the need for some R & R at yet another 2014 addition: the retro fabulous, and newly opened, Universal’s Cabana Bay Beach Resort. The design is so different from the three other onsite properties; it really feels like a beachy 50s hotel. Family suites sleep up to six in bright, spacious rooms with kitchenettes and lots of outlets for charging phones and devices. Cabana Bay may be retro in design, but it’s 100% modern in technology. Oh, and once it’s fully completed later this year, there will be a lazy river. So much fun!
Cabana Bay Beach Resort falls into the moderate and value-price point, and it’s within walking distance of both Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure. Another great benefit? Guests receive Early Park Admission to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter one hour before the theme parks open.
I’d be crazy to forget all the other events – Mardi Gras is in full swing with colorful floats and an amazing musical lineup. And of course planning for Halloween Horror Nights 24 is well underway with the event beginning September 19.
Universal Orlando continues to roll out one-of-a-kind experiences you won’t find anywhere else, and this year’s epic ride is only going to get wilder. Buckle up!
